Psychological Therapy:

TRAINED IN A RANGE OF THERAPEUTIC MODALITIES

The type of psychotherapeutic modality is contingent upon the assessment completed initially which determines the psychological difficulties that the individual is experiencing. Consideration is given to the diagnostic criteria, comorbidities, developmental stage and the individual’s therapeutic goals. Cynthia is trained in the application of a number of therapeutic modalities for children, adolescents and adults:

  • Psychodynamic

    • Who looks outside dreams; who looks inside awakens by Carl Jung

  • Play Therapy

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

    • Cognitive therapy seeks to alleviate psychological tensions by correcting misconceptions. By correcting erroneous beliefs, we can end the over reactions by Aaaron Beck

  • Interpersonal therapy

    • The interpersonal approach is a unique approach to individual therapy, which integrates relational experiences, their thoughts and themselves, and their familial experiences to bring about an awareness of how these three domains impact on one’s present circumstances by Gerald Klerman and Myrna Weissman

  • Mindfulness Based CBT

    • The inner peace of an alert and calm mind are the source of real happiness and good health by Dalai Lama

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy

    • An important and distinguishing factor of DBT is its emphasis on learning how to tolerate and accept distress by Marsha M. Linehan

  • Child-focused parent therapy/Parent Support

  • Parenting or Family Therapy

    • The overall goal is to help family members become ‘systems experts’ who could know family systems so well that the family could readjust itself without the help of an expert by Murray Bowen
